Pet Fish Disease

Poor water quality is responsible for many fish disease such as Pet Fish Disease which can kill your fish if left unchecked. Many times your fish can be saved, but if you do not act quickly your pet may be too far gone by the time you start treatment. Watch your tank closely to see if your fish exhibit symptoms of disease.

When your fish seem to have Pet Fish Disease, go one step further and look for tiny dots that are white and may be fuzzy looking This common parasite is called Ich which is short for Ichthyophthirius Although quite common, this disease can kill all your fish if not treated in time. Since it is usually caused by poor water quality, it is treated with water changes and medication that can be put into the tank. You can buy treatments for Ich at your local pet store or online.

Another problem caused by poor water is Grayish cottony patches. This fungus is caused by waste and extra food left in the tank. You can treat it by cleaning the tank, water changes and medicine that you can buy online or at your local pet store.

The Pet Fish Disease could also show up with fish that have fin rot. This is another problem that can happen because of poor water quality. It can be treated with a medicine made for this problem. You may want to consider isolating any fish that have rotted fins to keep the disease from spreading.

If your fish have cloudy skin or you see them scraping themselves along the bottom, it’s quite possible they have flukes – a parasite that attacks the skin and gills. This disease can be hard to control, so you must treat the tank at the first sign of outbreak.

Fish need oxygen and if it looks like they are fish gasping for air Depending on the type of filter you are using and the shape of your tank, you may not be getting enough oxygen into the water. Add an airstone to the tank which will allow oxygen to enter the water through the air bubbles it makes.

When medicating your tank for Pet Fish Disease, always be sure to follow the directions on the medication and use the proper medication for the problem. Good water quality through diligent aquarium maintenance can help to keep your fish healthy and ward off tropical fish disease.
