Cleaning Your Aquarium
January 26, 2007 on 4:06 pm | In Aquaria | No CommentsCleaning your aquarium can seem like a chore but it doesn’t have to be. If you stick to a set schedule and create a process of cleaning you can make the job a lot easier on yourself.
Cleaning your fish tank is important because it will helped create a healthy environment for your fish. In nature, waters are cleaned by the natural process of the tides and the waters flowing in and out of rivers and lakes which creates a constant flow of water. There are many plants and other natural materials that help with the cleaning of water in nature but in a fish tank you don’t have all these things so you need to supplement that by doing the water changes yourself.
Doing monthly water changes will not only make your aquarium look better it will make your fish look better and a live longer too!
Here are some tips on cleaning your aquarium.

Freshwater Tropical Fish
January 24, 2007 on 11:37 am | In Tropical Fish | No CommentsThere are many different kinds of freshwater tropical fish that you can buy to put in the fish tank, but not all fish get along and not all like the same conditions so you need to be careful when purchasing the fish. Here’s little bit about some of my favorites:
Oscars -these fish are pretty aggressive and don’t really get along with too many other types of fish so you’re better off to have a tank full of just Oscars. You want to keep the lot of them though, because if you only keep if you don’t end up fighting for for some reason if you have a bunch of them they’ll be okay. They like the tank to be between 78 and 82°F. You could try putting them in with a large plecostomus, white tip sharks or a clown kknife fish.
Angelfish - these fish are pretty and while they may look delicate they can actually be mildly aggressive. You want to keep them in groups of six or more and they can be okay in tanks with other Cichlids. Small fish like guppies might get eaten so you want to watch for that.
Tetras - these colorful little fish are fun to keep the big schools and in fact you should keep them in schools of minimum of six or more is better. They will do well with a lot of of the fish but you won’t want to put in any aggressive fish in the tank with them as they will probably end up eating your Tetras for lunch. Tetras like a tank temp of 75 to 80°F.

Aquarium Lighting
September 25, 2006 on 4:00 am | In Aquariums | No CommentsAquarium Lighting
Your fish and plants will need around 12 hours a day of light to best simulate their natural environment and make them feel right at home.
Think about putting your lights on a timer in order to be consistent as too much, too little, or inconsistent lighting may stress your fish and cause health problems.
