Goldfish Diseases
Goldfish can be quite long-lived but their life is cut short In most aquariums as they succumbed to many types of goldfish disease. like any other fish, goldfish are more susceptible to illness and disease when the tank water is not in good condition. Fish that are new to the tank or under some sort of stress due to overcrowding, poor tank maintenance, overfeeding, or even underfeeding are at most risk for disease.In order to keep your goldfish disease-free, you want to be sure to perform the proper maintenance in your tank and don’t over fill the tank with too many fish. Also when buying new fish inspected them carefully to be sure that they don’t already have a disease that they can pass on to the other fish in the tank. Also, when picking out your new fish be sure to check out all the other fish in the tank because it may take a while for disease to show up in the fish you are buying so if there are other fish in the tank that look unhealthy you might want to pass and look for a better kept tank.
Here’s some common diseases that can affect your goldfish:
Fin Rot -- this bacterial infection can attack your fish if they get an injury to their fans. It looks like a whitish edge on the fin with the fin eventually rotting away in appearing ragged. this is actually quite easy to fix.
Ich -- the real name for this parasite is Ichtyopthirius and this is the most common disease found in aquariums. this parasite preys on stressed-out fish and it attaches himself and feeds off the fish. They look like little white dots on your fish. These can spread rapidly if you do not take care of them right away and eventually infect all your fish.
Constipation -- did you know that your goldfish can become constipated? Well it’s true,! Due to the way they are made, they can have digestive troubles - especially if they are fed high-fat foods. you should always be sure to feed your goldfish some greens to avoid this problem.
Dropsy -- This is a bacterial infection that starts inside the finish and results in it looking like his scales are sticking out from the body. This is pretty serious and once you see the effects of it, you can be pretty sure your goldfish is a goner.
Swim Bladder Disorder -- this problem happens in goldfish and results in them not being able to swim well and you might notice them bobbing around at the top of the tank or the bottom. It is more common in the fancy goldfish and in tanks that have bad water quality.
Fungus -- fungus is a bacterial infection that can happen at the site of the wound. It looks like a white cottony patch on your goldfish.
Anchor Worm -- if you notice your goldfish rubbing himself against the decorations in your tank or the stones on the bottom, he might have the disease called anchor worm which is actually a worm that looks like a white stick which attaches itself and feeds off your fish.
Although goldfish are hardy fish, they are also messy fish and care needs to be taken to be sure that their water is of good quality. Frequent water changes will help with this and will also help to deter any fish disease that may sicken and kill your goldfish. Photos, with proper care your goldfish may live longer than the oldest reported goldfish who died at the age of 43.
